My grandndmother was Daisy Dennehy (that's her to the left - taken in her 20's). We have a lot of information on this website re Daisy and her forebears and descendants. Going right back.
My Grandfather was James Patrick Maloney. It is my quest now to check back on his family and that of his parents and siblings and their descendants - all part of the familiy of my great grandfather and mother, John and Elizabeth. This journey will take me to Ireland eventually; but in the mean time there are many cousins to find in Tasmania and now all over Australia and possibly beyond.
An additional project is to establish whether John had brothers and sisters and then list all their descendants.
This will be a most interesting journey as I journey back in time - to the years of my youth spent in Tasmania where my parents lived in a pub in Westbury - Maloney's Hotel. John died in 1903 in a buggy accident.
At right is a picture of my GGF John Maloney taken I believe about 1875.

On November 15th the Speed Maloney branch of the family tree will be holding a reunion and a commemoration at the Holy Trinity in Westbury Tasmania in remembrance of his parents, John and Kathleen. John Maloney was the son of Thomas Maloney one of the 14 children of our GGF John Maloney. The weekend kicks off with a general get together of the wider Maloney family in Launceston on Friday night followed on Saturday night by the official reunion dinner. On Sunday they all move on to Westbury for the commemoration. Speed has had two beautiful stained glass windows installed in the church with his parents names inscribed in them. Should be a great weekend and an opportunity for the Maloney's from all over the shop to catch up and chat about life and family memories.
Report
Over 130 Maloneys and friends gathered for the John and Kath window blessing and commemoration at the Holy Trinity Church followed by a reunion of the clan at the Westbury RSL. A great day of catching up with familiar old faces and friends. Well done Speed as our master of ceremonies. I managed to get a lot of family names and jiformation to add to this, our family tree website.

Living with Daisy - the early years |

By Dorothea (Dotsie) Dennehy My mother was born on a sheep station at Cobar on the Darling River, NSW. She told me her first language was aboriginal. She was called Daisy as some one (probably aboriginal) brought her mother a bunch of daisies. She disliked the name and thought it more appropriate for a cow. She told me her mother did not have many books when she lived there so she used to read the dictionary. Her father (Walter Oliphant Morrison) was a conservationist and did wonders for the people living at Ballandeen. Our family did not find out about him till later. I can remember hearing about his death in 1921. Her brothers were left the property (24 miles in length) and they sold it for a song. We later found out my grandfather (Walter) was a remittance man and he was educated in Edinburgh. He was sent out by his family as he was fond of alcoholic drinks. There were four children in her family – Charlotte (Lottie), Charlie, Gerald and herself. Her brothers went to New Zealand to live and she there years ago. She told me about her embarrassment when going through the customs as out of her luggage fell a bible and a pack of cards. Daisy’s family lived in Geelong where she was educated at The Hermitage, and she was Presbyterian. Her brother Gerald joined the Merchant Navy and as a girl she used to make jams for him to take on his travels, as he was away for 6 months at a time.

60 Years - Speed meets up with Lella |

Frank (Speed) Maloney, Lella Mattison, Fran Maloney and Sid Mattison
Lella and Sid Mattison moved to Scotland over 30 years ago to start a family and a new life. Lella, daughter of Phoebe Maloney (Niven) spent some of her early times in Westbury, Tasmania in the early 50's. There she probably met Frank Maloney. Afterall everyone did a bit of socializing around the old Maloney's Hotel.
Well 60 odd years later they all met up in Brisbane when Lella and Sid paid us a visit. A great time was had by all - reminiscing. And isn't that what family is all about.

A great time had by all who attended the family re-union. Tess and Frank were wonderful hosts in there beautiful home in Glen Waverley.
We had an excellent turn up of all generations. I hope to post a few group photos on the website soon. A few speeches at nights end allowed us to share notes and memories. Strange that as we all age together time seems to stand still.
Thanks to Kevin Kee for putting together the many branches of the family tree on spreadsheets that in many instances were metres wide.
I have found a Wiki site where the definition of cousin is explained.

Until next time.
